Building Stronger Grassroots Organizations Through Collaboration

Uphold Consortium is a collaborative initiative that exists to strengthen grassroots organizations working to advance hope, peace, reconciliation, and sustainable community development. We believe that lasting transformation is most effective when local organizations are equipped with the knowledge, partnerships, systems, and resources they need to lead change within their own communities.

Our vision is to cultivate a network of trusted organizations that learn from one another, share opportunities, and work collaboratively to increase their collective impact.

Rather than replacing the work of community organizations, Uphold Consortium seeks to strengthen their capacity so they can continue delivering locally led, evidence-informed solutions.

Our Areas of Focus

Our work centers on supporting member organizations through several strategic areas:

  • Partnership Development: Building relationships with institutions, foundations, technical experts, and other organizations that share our commitment to community transformation.
  • Knowledge Exchange: Facilitating learning opportunities through workshops, peer learning, conferences, and professional development that strengthen organizational effectiveness.
  • Resource Mobilization: Helping member organizations identify and access funding opportunities, technical assistance, tools, and other resources that support sustainable growth.
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL): Supporting organizations to strengthen planning, data collection, reporting, learning, and evidence-based decision-making so they can better understand and demonstrate their impact.
  • Communications and Storytelling: Amplifying the experiences, lessons, innovations, and achievements of member organizations through responsible media, publications, podcasts, and digital platforms.

Working With Grassroots Organizations

Uphold Consortium collaborates with grassroots organizations whose work aligns with our mission of strengthening communities and improving the well-being of vulnerable populations.

One example is Hope Community Action Africa (HCAA), whose work reflects the type of community-led initiatives the Consortium seeks to support through capacity strengthening, partnership development, and organizational learning.

Vision

Hope Alive in Every Child

Mission

To work alongside families and communities to help children consistently access their basic needs through sustainable, locally led solutions.

Communities Served

HCAA works with communities experiencing significant social and economic challenges, including:

  • Women caregivers supporting children under the age of 18.
  • Families living in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.
  • Children and families affected by poverty and other forms of vulnerability, including those affected by HIV.

Core Values

The partnership between Uphold Consortium and its member organizations is guided by shared values:

  • Inclusivity: Ensuring every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and equal opportunity.
  • Empowerment: Strengthening the capacity of individuals, families, and organizations to become increasingly self-reliant.
  • Accessibility: Expanding access to knowledge, opportunities, and support for underserved communities.
  • Holistic Well-being: Recognizing that sustainable development addresses physical, emotional, social, educational, economic, and spiritual well-being.
  • Accountability: Promoting transparency, responsible stewardship, continuous learning, and evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Partnership: Building relationships based on mutual trust, shared responsibility, and long-term collaboration.

How Member Organizations Create Impact

Organizations within the Consortium pursue solutions that respond to locally identified priorities. Depending on their mission, these may include:

  • Household economic strengthening and livelihoods.
  • Entrepreneurship training and mentoring.
  • Family support and child well-being initiatives.
  • Psychosocial support and community engagement.
  • Research, learning, and innovation.
  • Resource mobilization and organizational development.

Strengthening Learning and Accountability

Uphold Consortium encourages member organizations to adopt practical Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) systems that support continuous improvement.

These systems help organizations:

  • Monitor progress toward their objectives.
  • Learn from implementation experiences.
  • Strengthen accountability to communities and partners.
  • Make informed decisions using reliable evidence.
  • Share lessons that can benefit other organizations across the Consortium.

Looking Ahead

Uphold Consortium is committed to building a collaborative ecosystem where grassroots organizations learn together, strengthen one another, and expand their collective contribution to sustainable community development.

As the Consortium grows, we aim to deepen partnerships, broaden learning opportunities, and support locally led organizations in delivering meaningful and lasting impact within the communities they serve.
